Rooster - Vessel:

Base decorated with wickerwork bands. Worked out with great care in lost casting. Naturalistic, lively expression. Some details punched with fine chisels. Very good condition. Slowly grown patina without extreme weathering.

The rooster plays an important role in the creation mythology of the Yoruba and the Bini. Moreover, the elaboration is somewhat reminiscent of the Portuguese cockerel. Since the 16th century, there have been commissioned works by Portuguese, which could be an explanation for the similarity
