This highly-stylised head is adorned with rosettes of large, conical pearls located just above the ears, with strings of pearls hanging down from the head cap in front of behind those ears. A single, central pearl hangs from the middle of the forehead, while three bulging protrusions are affixed on either side of it, most likely meant to represent decorative scars. The neck is bedecked with numerous coral necklaces that ascend all the way up to the mouth, widely interpreted as indications of the subject's importance and affluence. The wings affixed to the sides of the pearl cap are highly controversial (for more information, see the text that accompanies the following head).
